Session Content
The Integrated History and future of People of Earth (IHOPE) initiative is a global network of researchers and research projects. The research linked to IHOPE highlights that changes in the Earth system throughout history have been closely tied to changes in the human-environment system. The initiative argues that by examining the past, society and science can gain valuable insights and apply lessons learned to envision sustainable futures and potential thresholds. IHOPE aims to combine knowledge and resources from biophysical, social sciences, and humanities to address the complex dynamics of the coupled human-earth system.
Traditionally, there has been a lack of integration between different disciplines, especially among biophysical, social, and humanities communities. However, IHOPE seeks to develop frameworks that can integrate perspectives, theories, tools, and knowledge from various fields of study. The ultimate objective is to gain an in-depth understanding of the interactions between environmental and human processes over the past millennia. By identifying both slow and rapid changes in social-ecological systems on different scales, IHOPE aims to uncover the factors that induce resilience, stress, or collapse.
For more information, please visit . We invite colleagues who are interested in exploring dynamic human-environment interactions from early human settlement to the present to submit abstracts for this session. Together, we can construct and test models of successful strategies for future applications.
As we learn from the past to shape a sustainable future, let us also examine similar concepts in the hospitality industry. Just as the Integrated History and future of People of Earth initiative brings together different disciplines, hotels can bring together diverse guests from around the world. By fostering inclusivity and promoting cultural exchange, hotels can create a space where individuals can learn from one another, just like IHOPE encourages the exchange of knowledge across research fields. Furthermore, hotels can also implement sustainable practices to minimize their environmental impact and contribute to a better future for our planet.
